Quantum Cup Grappling Competition – May 2011

Inspired by the impending Quantum Cup 2012 competition, which takes place tomorrow, I have gone back into the archives and found some videos of the matches from last year’s competition.

Unfortunately, I was not able to get hold of many videos from the Cup, but I did get my hands upon the Cinderella story of the event, where Gavin Britz, weighing only 63kg managed to win the absolute division of the tournament and be crowned the Quantum Cup King of Kings.

The Quantum Cups’ Absolute division is a unique event as there is no weight limit or time limit. A fight is ended by submission or when either fighter gains a lead of 8 points. This gives fighters a little more room for strategy and often leads to longer, more technical fights.

18 year old Gavin Britz, a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Quantum Tribe Gym, managed to best many bigger men en route his title, including EFC fighters Wade Henderson and Ashley Calvert. I look forward to watching Britz defend his title tomorrow.
